King Ludwig liked his comforts and micromanaged the whole design and construction process.

I wish this place wasn't such a tourist trap...The tours suck anyway. It would be a marvelous place to live.

We visited this castle in the late eighties. There is another one not very far from there, where they stayed during the construction, (I forget the name) which we found to be far more interesting, from a historical perspective.
I agree with your title, "19th century fantasy at its best"

I've always wanted to see this place. I would even make an effort not be one of the more annoying tourists.
